چکیده

This paper is devoted to the presentation and analysis of some linear and quadratic finite volume (FV) schemes for elliptic problems with singular solutions due to the non-smoothness of the domain. Our FV schemes are constructed over specially-designed graded triangular meshes. We provide sharp parameter selection criteria for the graded mesh, such that both the linear and quadratic FV schemes achieve the optimal convergence rate approximating singular solutions in H1. In addition, we show that on the same mesh, a linear FV scheme obtains the optimal rate of convergence in L2. Numerical tests are provided to verify the analysis.

A finite difference method for the smooth solution of linear Volterra integral equations

The present paper proposes a fast numerical method for the linear Volterra integral equations withregular and weakly singular kernels having smooth solutions. This method is based on the approx-imation of the kernel, to simplify the integral operator and then discretization of the simpliedoperator using a forward dierence formula. To analyze and verify the accuracy of the method, weexamine samp...

The Uniqueness Theorem for the Solutions of Dual Equations of Sturm-Liouville Problems with Singular Points and Turning Points

In this paper, linear second-order differential equations of Sturm-Liouville type having a finite number of singularities and turning points in a finite interval are investigated. First, we obtain the dual equations associated with the Sturm-Liouville equation. Then, we prove the uniqueness theorem for the solutions of dual initial value problems.

A New Class of High Order Finite Volume Methods for Second Order Elliptic Equations

In the numerical simulation of many practical problems in physics and engineering, finite volume methods are an important and popular class of discretization methods due to the local conservation and the capability of discretizing domains with complex geometry. However they are limited by low order approximation since most existing finite volume methods use piecewise constant or linear function...

Higher-order mimetic methods for unstructured meshes

A higher-order mimetic method for the solution of partial differential equations on unstructured meshes is developed and demonstrated on the problem of conductive heat transfer. Mimetic discretization methods create discrete versions of the partial differential operators (such and the gradient and divergence) that are exact in some sense and therefore mimic the important mathematical properties...
